A crafty way to start up a new business
Crystal Dry Cleaners in Raunds has found an innovative way to help a new business start up. Admittedly the owner, Martina Lyon, is a personal friend of Tammy Grigg, the owner of Tamara’s Art but they both feel other businesses could learn a lot from their new venture.
As a busy mum of four to; Hannah 7, Daniel 5, Isobel and Jessica 1, Tammy was sure that her dream of owning a craft shop was destined to remain just a dream. She was then offered the opportunity to sell her handcrafted cards in Martina’s Dry Cleaners. Following on from the small success the cards have had, Martina then suggested Tammy made use of an unused corner of the shop, to sell her paper crafting items.
Tammy jumped at the chance and within 10 days the little corner was stocked with an impressive array of items. Tammy says “I was going to wait till the girls started school before looking into making my dream a reality but with Martina’s offer I knew I would get a foot in the door of the craft retail business in a very easy, cost effective way”. As far as Martina is concerned the arrangement is mutually beneficial explaining “I know just how much hard work is involved in setting a business up, even without the costs involved. This way I get to help a good friend, earn commission on anything we sell as well as the chance of attracting new customers. It’s a win win situation and the people of Raunds are going to be the cleanest crafters in Northamptonshire!”
All Tamara’s Art now needs is customers through the door and Tammy admits that will be the biggest challenge as the store front doesn’t indicate her presence there. “I am doing all I can to get the word out there that my gorgeous products are sat there waiting to be discovered. I know that I am very lucky to have been given this chance by Martina so I will work as hard as I can to repay her by bringing the customers through the door. Paper crafting is my passion, so much so that I can promise “If I don’t have it in stock, then I offer a FREE sourcing and order service” so please come to see what we have on offer”
