Community Orchard for Raunds
Work is continuing to create a community orchard (woodland walk) in Raunds.
The next stage in the process, is to apply for planning permission for "a change of use" for the small part of Amos Lawrence that we are using for the Orchard. This is because planting a fruit tree makes it agricultural land!
The Orchard won't affect anyone using the football pitches, sportswall or skate park you can still walk your dog and enjoy the open space. We will just be adding an Orchard where you can sit and take a break and in a few years the fruit will be there for everyone to enjoy :)
Full details of the planning application can be found at https://publicaccess.east-northamptonshire.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=Q0UTYHGO03N00
The Orchard will be situated at the bottom of Amos Lawrence Playing Field and will include a large variety of trees including apples, pears, plums and lesser known fruits such as quince and mulberry.. Local schools and community groups are being invited to join the planting and ongoing maintenance of the area. The orchard will be open to all and anyone can go along and enjoy the fruits from the trees.
The area will also include benches, wildflower meadow and a mud kitchen for younger children to enjoy.
The project is planned for completion in January 2020.
Any community group who would like to get involved should contact the council firstname.lastname@example.org.
