Help Raunds Mark VE Day 75 on 8th May 2020

Help Raunds Mark VE Day 75 on 8th May 2020

Help Raunds mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day by decorating your house in red, white and blue. We would also love you to create posters to mark this historic occasion.

The 8th May 2020 marks the 75th anniversary since guns fell silent across Europe. Raunds Town Council had planned to mark this momentous event with a weekend of celebration and reflection. Sadly, the current situation means we are unable to do this, but we still want to mark this occasion.

It would be fantastic if on May 8th we could turn Raunds, red, white and blue. If you can decorate your houses and gardens and send your pictures to info@raunds-tc.gov.uk we will create a gallery on our website and on Facebook, so that we can share these with the Town.

We also want to create banners which we will display in the Town and we want these to be made up of your designs! So get thinking and get creative, your poster might be a drawing or a poem, or maybe made up of some family photos you can share with us from 1945. Please send your poster to info@raunds-tc.gov.uk no later than Thursday April 30th so that we have a chance to get the banners printed in time for May 8th.

Later in the year the 15th August marks the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day, Victory in Japan, when Japan surrendered to the allies and World War 2 was officially over. So we are hoping that we will be able to move our events planned for May 8th to this date. We will make sure all your posters and the banners that have been designed are displayed at these events too.

We hope this gives you something to think about and get involved in the next week or two!
