VE Day 80 Celebrations at Raunds Town Square

VE Day 80 Celebrations at Raunds Town Square

Yesterday evening, our community came together at the Town Square for a truly special commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The early part of the evening saw the unveiling of two new commemorative benches in St Peter's Church Memorial Gardens. These will serve as lasting tributes, offering a place for reflection for years to come, this was followed by the sound of St Peter's Church Bells.

From 7pm, the Town Square was transformed into a vibrant hub of entertainment. We were treated to fantastic performances by the Candy Girls, Raunds Community Choir, Different Direction Choir, and the talented students from our local schools. Each performer provided an incredible atmosphere for the audience and helped create a memorable atmosphere.

Thank you to the wonderful Raunds WI for their help with serving tea and cake throughout the evening.

The Deputy Lord-Lieutenant delivered a moving tribute as the beacon was lit, reminding us of the sacrifices made and the significance of this historic day. The evening then drew to a close with the choirs singing "I Vow to Thee, My Country".

Thank you to everyone who joined us in commemorating this important anniversary.
